Meet the Woman behind the dream
Nikki
Nikki grew up working in her family’s own plant business, and has been taking care of plants since before she realized it was her passion.
She is a woman of many skills, trades and talents! She’s done everything from working at a winery to working at the extension agency at Virginia Tech (and much more in between)! She also has a masters degree in horticulture from the University of Florida, and is always hungry for more! Her ongoing thirst for knowledge and adventure is what eventually led to the creation of Modern Foliage!
Driven by a passion for plants, Nikki strives to bring life into every room!

Meet the team
Gretchen
Gretchen began her career in house plants as a Plant Specialist in the tropical greenhouse of a large garden center. She specialized in caring for plants and assisting customers in selecting plants appropriate for their home environment and lifestyle. Gretchen currently works with Modern Foliage, where she installs and cares for plants in commercial and residential settings. In her spare time, she enjoys caring for her collection of over 100 houseplants, gardening and traveling with her family.
Missi
Missi began her plant journey when she and her husband bought almost two acres in Manassas. Having her son the following year really inspired her to transform the property and make it a haven for her family.
Being a stay home mom she and her shovels slowly created large beds. And she proved you don’t need a lot of money but willpower and muscle to create beautiful spaces. And time.
Years later once she had more time, she decided to alter her volunteering habits from her child’s school to the Prince William County Master Gardener program.
While continuing to volunteer she started working at a garden center in 2016 in the Tropical greenhouse where she learned all about tropical house plants. She started at the same time as her coworker now, Gretchen and they made an amazing team.
She has an expansive collection of house plants as well as her outdoor gardens. Her focus is to provide habitat for insects, birds and other wildlife trying to keep with mostly natives. Keeping a balance of predatory insects to handle pests versus using chemical solutions.
